and you probably want specific ACT! screens, fields,
reports and other documents tailored to your business.

Until you start
the customization process, ACT! is just another
database no more efficient than a Rolodex. Yes,
you can schedule appointments, do lookups, create
groups and mail merge letters but there is so
much more ACT! can do when it is customized
to your needs.
The process
begins with identifying your needs to determine
what fields may be needed to fill in sales,
customer service, contract templates and all
the forms needed to run your business.
I have created
databases with several hundred fields at the
customers’ request, but I usually try to discourage
adding hundreds of fields because I don’t want
to turn you into a data processor. In my experience,
when I look at large custom databases that have
been in use for a while, I notice most of the
fields are not being used.
The customization
process is more than adding custom fields. Once
I have created the required fields, I determine
ways to automate ACT! functions by creating
Macros and setting triggers to execute commands
when you enter or exit a field.
